The judging panel’s chairman and Managing Director of Emerson Real Estate, Richard Emerson, said that, despite the fact that the residential sector of Myanmar has slowed recently, the commercial sector, retail in particular, continued to perform well. He added that apartments in Myanmar have high occupancy levels, especially the serviced apartments of Yangon, with some of the highest room rates in the region being found in Myanmar, showing that there is, in fact a demand.

He adds that, despite the difficulties Myanmar is facing during this period of lull, the area is a bright prospect for investment, especially with the government’s efforts in opening up the economy and encouraging investors.

Another highlight of the gala’s ceremonies was the presenting of the 2017 Myanmar Real Estate Personality of the Year Award to Aung ZawNaing, ShweTaung Development Co., Ltd’s Group CEO. The award was given based on the decisions of Property Report magazine staff, who believed that Mr. ZawNiang was a key factor in advancing the country’s real estate sector. This award, was the sole award of the night not given away based on the judging panel’s decision.

The PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Founder and Managing Director, Terry Blackburn, said that the real estate sector of Myanmar contributed a lot to the country’s economic development, a fact that the awards recipients should be very proud of. He adds that both he, and Property Guru Asia, wish the awardees further success, and encourages them to maintain the standard of quality that got them their respective awards.
