Thailand To Spend Two Decades Constructing High-Speed Railways
The kingdom of Thailand is going to construct high-speed railways panning a total of 2,506 km and it is expected that the project will be completed by 2036. A Thai official added that the railways is going to serve as a link between south of Padang Besar, southeast of Rayong, northeast of NongKhai and north of Chiang Mai. It is expected that it will positively impact businesses such as modern hotel in Rayong as there will be a more convenient way to travel from the city of Bangkok.
Thai Ministry of Transport’s rail project development officer who is employed by the OTP, SupharlerkSoodyodprasert, was the one in charged in launching the project in the recently concluded Rail Asia Expo & RISE Symposium.
When this becomes a reality, this is going to be the first high-speed railway to be constructed in Thailand through the partnership between Thailand and China. Suphalerk said that the first phase is the link between Bangkok and NongKhai was started in 2017 right after a ground-breaking event.
During the launch, he also presented the project’s master plan which was developed by Thailand itself.
The first period of the project is estimated between 2017 and 2021 with four projects to be completed. These four projects are the first phase which is a 253 km link from Bangkok going to NakhonRatchasima, a second phase consisting of 355 km starting in NakhonRatchasima going to NongKhai until the border between Thai and Lao, the railways between three airports – U-Tapao,Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang with an additional expansion reaching Rayong and last is the high speed railway linking Bangkok and Phitsanulok which will span 380 km.
Suhalerk added that the second period is between 2022 and 2026 and during this time it is expected that the high-speed railway between Bangkok and Hua Hin is going to be constructed which will cover 211 km. Another project for the second period is the link between Phitsanulok and Chiang Mai which is 288 km. All these projects are aimed in improving Thailand to benefit business like modern hotel in Rayong because tourists will be able to travel all over Thailand with ease.
